A Second Season in the Books

We were excited to get back to Huguenot but worried about getting into our new slip – there are some funky currents in behind Glen Island – but all went well. It’s a tight squeeze, but as long as we have someone to help with our lines, it’s easier than our old corner slip was. We’re right on the main dock, which makes life aboard so much easier – we can come and go whenever we want without having to worry about launch schedules or making sure we bring the dinghy in.

I wondered what it would be like coming back after year two of cruising. We’re away for so much of the year now – would it still feel like we belong here? And the answer is a resounding yes. We’ve been running into people here and there all week, and it’s been nice to catch up.

Last night was race night – unfortunately our skipper wasn’t feeling well so we didn’t race, but Chris was able to get a ride on Albondigas, a J/88. We went up to the club for post-race dinner and drinks, and it was SO good to see everyone. This weekend is Larchmont Race Week, and I’m looking forward to getting out to race and catching up with our friends on Rushmore.

It’s bittersweet to be back. I’m so happy to see our local friends and be back at Huguenot. I can’t wait to get out and race and continue to expand my skills. And I love that we have Glen Island Park right here for our morning walks. Yesterday we started planning out our summer season, and it’s crazy to me how little time we actually have. We have a pretty full race schedule, and we have quite a few projects on the list – it will be good to get Windara in better shape for next season. But I’ll also miss being out cruising, and hopefully we’ll get in some local cruising too.
