Hey Hope Town! Throw me a rope down
Hope Town – Songwriters in Paradise
Into a bottle of Firefly rum and let me swim around
Where the lowdown is to hurry up and slow down
Oh, oh, oh, oh Hope Town
We didn’t know it at the time, but we happened to pick the week that Songwriters in Paradise (SIP) Hope Town was happening for Chris’s parents to come visit. Unfortunately we couldn’t make it to any of the performances when they were here, but we went to the Friday night performance at the Hope Town Inn and Marina with some of our friends. I didn’t really expect to love it – the songwriters write mostly for country artists, and it’s not at all my genre. However, getting to hear SIP founder Patrick Davis, Tyler Reeve, Channing Wilson, Chris Gelbuda, Wyatt Durrette and Kristian Bush perform the songs and the raw, emotional connection to the lyrics gives the music a whole different dimension, and I loved every minute.
We actually had so much fun that we decided to go to the Saturday night performance at Firefly too. We swung by October to see if they were going, and they offered us a ride. With two weddings and SIP in town, there wasn’t a single golf cart available on Elbow Cay, and we had actually planned to walk so we really appreciated the offer. Our new friends Wendy and Grant from Vindaloo were there too, and we joined them for dinner before the show.
I’m really glad we decided to go to both shows, and some of these songs will definitely find their way into my regular playlist!
