We decided not to stay the full week in Titusville – we had hoped to stop off at Cocoa, and since it’s close enough that we could make the hop in a single morning, we decided to go for it. Chris took the first watch, and I took over so he could take his morning work meeting from the bow.
We had to pass under a couple fixed bridges and a set of high tension wires, and both make me nervous, despite having navigated both on a catamaran with a taller mast. Silent Sky was more than fine in terms of clearance for both. It was a nice, easy three hour trip, and I always love getting to make a quick morning run. We dropped the hook just a bit south of the power lines on the west side of the ICW a quick dinghy ride from town.
The temperatures have felt like summer, and I can’t say I mind being hot again. They had these cheesy little signs all over that read “Hot Cocoa Holidays,” and my reaction was equal parts eye roll and chuckle. It’s been strange leading up to the holidays in such warm weather, but I can’t say I mind.
They had a huge local boat parade that happened to pass right off our stern, and it made me wish we had our own lights. We cranked Trans Siberian Orchestra on the stereo while watched from the cockpit. Afterward, we took Squall ashore to meet up with a friend of a friend, who we’ve been playing leapfrog with since we left Annapolis. We had a really fun night with him and another couple he met at his marina – I love these spontaneous connections.
We didn’t get to spend a ton of time ashore, but we did walk around a little in the mornings and Cocoa Village is a really cute little town. I love all the artists’ shops, it looks like there are some good restaurants, and they have a little local brewery. I think this would be a fun spot to come back to when we can spend a little more time.
