We Have Liftoff

It was really nice to be back on a mooring for a while – although it was so calm that it didn’t feel that much different than being on a dock. One morning, we took Squall to circumnavigate one of the little spoil islands, and it almost felt like we were in the tropics. But when a heavy fog rolled in, we were forced to cut our exploration short.

The best part of being in Titusville was that we had a front row seat to an Atlas 5 and a Falcon 9 rocket launch. There was fog for the Atlas 5 launch, and it went from being pitch dark to suddenly looking like dawn as the launch took place. We could see the Falcon 9 clearly (terrible photos below), and it was really cool to go from never having seen a rocket launch to seeing three within a single week.

We hired a diver to come out and clean the bottom since our last cleaning was in Southport, and we were able to get a couple other things dealt with, including pump out. Back home, pump out boats are everywhere (along with pump out stations), and they’re all free, so I’ve found it surprising how relatively difficult it is to get pump out here and that many places charge (this marina did it for free). I don’t mind paying – it’s like $5 – but it’s one of the little things I didn’t expect as we’ve cruised.

On our last night, we went ashore to return our key cards and pick up a couple provisions, and we ended up stopping in at the Playlandia Brewery. They had a lot of interesting beers, and we each did a flight so we could try as many as possible. By the time we left, we were too lazy to cook dinner, so we were horrible and stopped for KFC. Hey, you can’t be going for fancy dinners all the time, right?

There is nothing wrong with some good greasy fried chicken after drinking some good fresh beers
